What is the best thing about your training? I love it all! This has been a new lease of life for me and given me the opportunity to do something I always wanted to do. I have enjoyed almost every training session & even though I feel there is such a lot to learn, the feeling of seeing a classroom of children responding to your teaching is an amazing experience.

As a mature career changer, the School Direct programme offered by Kirklees & Calderdale SCITT, has been the perfect fit. It has enabled me to train to be a teacher on the job and immerse myself into the school environment from day one. This coupled with weekly training sessions hosted by SCITT and the theoretical understanding gained whilst studying for my PGCE, accelerated the development of my practice towards outstanding teaching and learning.
If you are considering making the move into education, Kirklees & Calderdale SCITT provide a structured school based route – you are on the job, part of the school and making progress from day one. You have the support of the SCITT team and your cohort of fellow trainees, together with your host school ITT coordinator and mentor.
Matt Kerridge, Business Studies
Why did you choose KCSCITT? I chose the SCITT because I wanted to get hands on experience and feel confident to teach, I didn’t think I would get that from a University. I was worried about the workload and content but the mentors and tutors are very supportive and provide constant feedback to support me. I get hands on experience where I learn more than sitting in a class.

The course has provided me with information, confidence and a network of teachers to support my training. The Friday sessions have complemented my practice and gifted me a plethora of knowledge and resources to utilise. The careful selections of placement schools have ensured my training has been effective and I have felt supported through-out the course. Overall, SCITT has nurtured my enthusiasm to teach and developed my practice so I feel optimistic towards my teaching career.
Chloe Cremins, English
My year of training has been challenging but also very rewarding. I was prepared for the work load after previous experiences in schools and talking to other teachers. I would highly recommend the Kirklees and Calderdale SCITT course. Their use of expert lecturers, the support from staff and fellow students has been paramount in my development as a teacher. The chance to learn while working on the job is also a valuable experience.
Jack Conway, Primary
Really good practical way of getting into a teaching career. The balance of training days to placement days is great.
